A 328 ft. wide hole in the Karakum desert in Turkmenistan. The result of an Soviet oil drilling rig cracking a pocket of natural gas in 1971. It fell in, and to prevent the natural gas from poisoning the entire surrounding area, they lit the hole on fire. It hasn’t stopped burning since. For 38 years.
